Data loss due to hardware failure or other circumstances can occur if not prevented. To protect your data, please ensure you store data in the network share folders or in your University OneDrive. Data loss due to a hardware failure of your local computer or accidental deletion may be recoverable, but time is of essence. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to recover
Features:
Potentially recover files from a broken hard drive, hardware failure, or accidental deletion from network share folders.
Getting Started:
Data Loss Due to Hardware Failure:
Only FGCU faculty or staff members may request data to be recovered through a data recovery tool company. If the faculty/staff member does not have access to the funds to complete this work, the dean/director should approve funds.
Once funding has been secured ITS will take the device and bring it to the recovery company, and work with the company to grant any additional access the company may need. ITS will then retrieve the computer and data, and return it to the department that requested the data recovery.
- Computers parts can fail without warning. Hard drive failure will lose all data on the drive.
- ITS recommends that you store all work-related data in the network share folders
- ITS is not equipped to perform this type of recovery
- The cost of recovery may vary from $500 to $1000 or more depending on the circumstances involved
- ITS must facilitate the dropping off and picking up of any FGCU owned devices with 3rd party vendors
Accidental Deletion:
- ITS maintains backups of systems that store user data for disaster recovery purposes, and may be able to assist with the recovery of some lost items.
- Data may not be recoverable if missing files are reported outside of the retention period for each system.
- If you should need assistance with some files that were deleted from your private department, campus, cross department or user share folder, please contact the University Help Desk immediately. Please provide the following information:
- Where the files were stored
- Last time the files were accessed
- Names of the files
- Location to restore to if they are recoverable.
Eligibility:
- Faculty/Staff
Requirements:
- None
Data Security:
All data stored on your computer and on the network file share folders must be handled according to the FGCU Restricted Data Policy.
Support:
- For assistance, please contact the FGCU Help Desk via helpdesk@fgcu.edu or by calling (239) 590-1188.
Rates:
For hardware failure recovery, ITS must send the drive to an outside company that may charge $500 to $1000 depending on the difficulty involved in recovering the data.
