What this article covers
This article outlines a step-by-step process for how to use the classroom handheld microphones provided by ITS for instruction and events. In this article, the following will be covered:
Note that only rooms with multiple projectors (2 or more), and also multipurpose event areas, include handheld microphone systems for use. The microphones are located on the podium in bags labeled "Shure."
If you'd like to request/rent out additional microphone setups for a special event, please fill out a Hardware and Event/Classroom Equipment form from the ITS Service Request page.
Typical Room Setup
In most cases, our rooms with microphone systems come with the following kit that is pre-installed into the podium itself:
- One handheld Shure SLX SM58 microphone
- One clip-on, Shure SLX "bodypack" microphone
- One Shure SLX wireless microphone receiver unit (installed within the podium)
Operation Steps
1. To use any of the microphones, press and hold or switch the power button on the device to turn it on:
2. To control the volume/pick-up of each one, you can go to the touch panel microphone settings and find the increment bar(s) that say “wireless” on them.
- Most rooms will have a single, wireless volume increment for both the handheld and the "bodypack" clip-on mic—it will adjust the volume for both microphones. However, some rooms will have options to control a “wireless 1 or wireless 2” microphone from within the same menu (one operates the handheld microphone ONLY, and the other operates the clip-on bodypack microphone ONLY).
