Work From Home - Staying Safe While Working from Home
Updated
If you need to access FGCU network resources while working from home, only use our approved VPN solution, myVPN.
Make sure your home computer has the latest updates for its operating system and its virus and malware protection.
With phishing attempts and malicious malware on the rise, beware of phishing scams and unsolicited attachments in your email. FGCU will never ask you for your password or other personal information by email.
Look out for phishing campaigns that may target remote workers.
Avoid public WiFi, or immediately connect to FGCU's VPN after connecting to an open wifi network.
If you work with Restricted Data, please remember to keep following best practices while handling it. If you need a refresher, check out our page on Restricted Data and the Restricted Data Policy.
Practice overall good cybersecurity hygiene while at home. For example:
Use strong passwords or pass phrases
Use antivirus software
Secure your home router
Change the default password
Install firmware updates
Set encryption to WPA2 or WPA3
Install updates regularly for your operating systems and any applications on your personal computer.
